Coins found buried with Egyptian mummies

What a useless story.....no info on the coins, that might have dated
the burial, and no mention of the fact that no coins were issued in
Egypt until the Ptolemaic Dynasty after Alexander the Great died.

Of course, the mummies might have been buried with coins from the greek
world (since it's a greek thing to have a coin to pay the ferryman with
and not an Egyptian thing as noted). Don't forget that Athenian Owls
were prevalent in Egypt prior to Alexander and Ptolemy. There have been
hoards of these found in the past.

If these mummies were buried with coins, then no matter what else we
learn concerning what it is they are excavating from that Valley, we
already know that it isn't particularly `old' in terms of Egyptian
timeframes, and most likely they will be from the Ptolemaic dynasty or
just prior to it. Who knows though....a whole new collecting vista might
have been discovered. I doubt it though.

Actually, some Pharaonic coins were issued by the last dynasty before the
Persian conquest.
