Default Thanks for Boston tips

For those who gave me tips about places and things to do on my current
Boston trip, again my thanks. To Ms Satrap who is always willing to
spend other peoplesw' money, well, pbbst! No, I didn't buy any
Amalfi paper. I like nice things, but don't commit disposable writing
to gold leaf.

Anyway, from advance email I learned that Scribe's Delight No longer
has a retail shop, just email only. But their delightful lady
replied that she would be happy to meet with me when I am in town (I
didn't try to read into that line!) I'll do some custom work with
them by mail later.

She did recommend Bromfield Pen Co., coincidentall on Bromfield Ave.,
near where I am staying. Nice store, huge selection of pens, inks,
and accessories, and friendly helpful staff. The full span of brands,
new, and some "vintage" which I gather means unsold merchandise from
recent past years. While browsing I observed a lady returning a
handful of special (for her) colors of gel pens that were dried up.
They were all to eager to give her replacements, and went all around
the shop grabbing pens off the shelves -- diff brands, etc.,
explaining that some of their stock had been on the shelves for a long
time, and possibly dried out. (Not a good sign)

I browsed their standard brand pens. Since I already have too many,
and haven't kept up on prices, I can't judge their prices.

I did buy two 3-packs of the Moleskin brand notebooks, pocket size
and next one up. $6 and $10 per pack, lower priced versions, thin,
basically cardboard covers with glued pages. The next models up in
price, same two sizes, would have been one book each, each size,
rather than three, but with more pages in each (but not as many as
three), for, I think, about $6 ande $16. Back in the room, trying one
out, I am distinctly not impressed about all this hoopla about
Moleskin. That's the brand imprint, not just the type. I have scored
leather bound, gilt edged journals on Ebay and elsewhere for much
less. Oh well, at least I got to try them.

Meantime, thanks again to the one who gave me other Boston touring
trips offline (don't have the name handy). I spent my first two days
doing too much rich food, touristing, and night-lifing. This third
day my post-middle age caught up with me. I slowed down by shopping
(pen store and Filene's), the a rest on a Boston Commons park bench
with a good book, while watching the many strange and funny-looking
tourists passing by - glad I'm not one of those!
