Default Tech: Jukebox venting question

I have my Seeburg 220 dismantled now, and noticed that on each side, there
are slots cut in the wood cabinet, behind where the side glasses go.
On one side, there's a rectangular cut that's near the bottom of where the
glass would mount. On the other side, it looks like they cut a hole near
the middle for the coin chute to have room for. In both cases, these
openings lead to the amp area. I believe this is where the heat from the
amp area is finding its' way through these openings and in between the
cabinet and side glass. My glass has severe heat damage. (I wonder why
these holes were made?)

My question is: can I block these openings off w/o causing any other
problems? I do want to install a fan in the amp cabinet to aid in
circulation.

Thanks - Ace

You may find that those holes are for more than venting. Proper speaker
porting is important to good bass. I beleive that there was port
considerations in jukes even before your model. If these are factory cut
holes then I would leave them open. The porting of a speaker cabinet, which
a jukebox is, is critical to good sound. IMHO Jim

Jim - I never would have considered an acoustic-angle, thanks! I think
what I will do is wait until it's fully re-assembled and working, and then
experiment by plugging the holes with some insulation and hear if there is
any change. If no change, then I will leave them. - Ace
