Default A Half Question

No, it's not a half of one question, it's one question about Half Dollars.

Which post-2000 years had halfs released for circulation, and which were
offered in Mint sales only (bag or rolls)?

Thanks

The only half dollars post-2000 that have been released for circulation are
the 2001-D's. The 2002s, 2003s, and 2004s have been offered by the Mint for
sale to collectors at a premium.

2001-P's have not been released for circulation, yet, but they could be in
the future. Of course, you can now get them from the mint directly, too,
with 2001-Ds.

A dealer friend told me about a year ago that he had inquired at the Mint

about
special ordering a quantity of 2001-P halves, and was told that he could

buy
one full truckload of them. IIRC, it came to 4 million coins, or

$2,000,000
plus a handling charge. He passed.

That should still have left about 17 million, or so, in their vaults. The
Mint only appears able to sell 3 or 4 million of each mint yearly, so I
expect that some of us will be finding 2001Ps in rolls at a bank someday
(and if they'll only grab lots of them, then they could trade with we who
have ones they want?).
