UNI Berlin Newsserver?
Does anyone know what's happening at the UNI Berlin
Newsserver?? Is there a "knot" somewhere on the 'net? I know that several posters here use it as newsreader. I could read and post normally this morning, but for the latest 12 hours they keep asking me for my valid password, and yet they deni access? -- Ann Mette Heindorff (Mette) return address invalid -- contact me through heindorffstamps at yahoo dot dk http://www.xs4all.nl/~pkv/slania/ |

According to an article in alt.free.newsservers you have to change to news.individual.net HTH -- John Ray, London UK. Mail to mefp49 is unlikely to be read. I can be contacted at xcf70 (same ISP). |

The server mentioned doesn't seem to work ... Thanks anyway. I will find other solutions. Mette |

What kind of stamps are issued by « UNI Berlin Newsserver » ? Can't you ask such a question in a group dedicated to usenet servers, and not in a group dedicated to stamps collection ? -- DC |

Didier, This is a relevant question, coming from a known participant in this NG, one who has lost the access to her NG server (and implicitely to this NG), and who is searching for a solution. I doubt that it is polite to say (in other words): Don't bother us with your non-philatelic problems and search for a solution elsewhere! I wonder if the traditional "courtoisie" isn't gradually vanishing somewhere in France... BTW, I have exactly the same problem, and this thread helped me too. In the meantime I have registered with Google Groups in order to post this very comment. Victor Manta SNA is watching :-) |

Is there some people who is allowed to talk about everything, forgetting the topic of the newsgroup ? Where is the list of them ? There better not be a list! (conspriracy theory) Some items, such as computer usage, are norm for newsgroups. This is not the only newsgroup that has been asked for help by other contributing members. Sometimes, a clue as to how to get the newsgroup better / etc. will allow that person to frequent the group more and contribute as well. So, a little leniency may be needed? This is not to take either side. This group deals with stamps, per the FAQ, but there have been a lot of fringe questions asked that were in sync with the current topics -or- labeled as OT. I doubt that it is polite to say (in other words): Don't bother us with your non-philatelic problems and search for a solution elsewhere! I wonder if the traditional "courtoisie" isn't gradually vanishing somewhere in France... Courtesy is not the problem. Didier, then why the curt stance? This group is not the better one to have a wise answer. Do you ask for bread at your car seller ? No, but the car salesman may ask on which side your bread is buttered. :^) E-mail me for an answer on that one... BTW, I have exactly the same problem, and this thread helped me too. I have a question about my cats. Yes? what is it? Is this one the right group, too ? May be, but not the definitive group to ask. A lot of cat owners are here. :^) Sometimes we talk about something that sways a little to the left or the the right, depending on the day of the week, if we've had out vitamins and if the crow flies south. I remember being ignored, when asking for e-mail here for a week, recently. Only 1 member replied, and I thanked him. My ISPs were screwed up and I had an odd e-mail address, but that helped me a little keep my rcsd "fix" going. (By the way, hopefully this won't happen to ayone else here.) Anyway, yes - sometimes knowing if the newsgroup is going and other ways of getting there are relvenet to SOME members of this newsgroup. Let's leave personalities at the door... there's too many trolls that lurk here and prey on this type of stuff. [ I await all of the flames that will arive shortly. Bring 'em on. ] Tracy Barber |

People here are free to post about subjects related to stamps. Accessing this NG is a relevant subject, as already stated, being a premise to the participation in its activity. Courtesy shouldn't be a problem, but a habit. I don't know if you have already asked youself why so many people have problems with you on the French philatelic NG. Eventually read the answers that you have got in this thread and perhaps you will get some clues. Yes, you can speak about cats in this NG, if you relate them to stamps. I can remember that a few years ago we had here a very touching discussion about our dogs. If I still remember well, the discussion was started by my page: http://www.values.ch/Countries/Sweden/Dogs/dogs.htm Therefore try to bring something interesting into this NG, and you will find participants who will be interested to discuss different aspects of the subject with you. This is actually the way for everybody to make this NG more interesting, to attract more people and to increase her/his chances for getting "wise" answers.
