Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary ON EBAY

Yep, he claims in the auction text that he has a confirmed receipt date of October 6th.....which would be the absolute latest date he must ship by according to eBay rules on pre-sales. However, he is full of crap. October 6th is the day the Mint will begin to ship. |

Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary
I believe the reverse proof coin will have a lower mintage than the
1994-P regular proof silver eagle, which currently sells for a higher price than the entire 20th anniversary silver eagle set. Plus (for now, anyway) it's a one-year type coin. I ordered a few extra sets, looking forward to seeing what happens. |

The 1994-P regular Proof Silver eagle has a mintage of about 372,000 according to Ye Holy Red Book. So the 2006 Reverse Proof should be lower, yes. 250,000 of the three coin sets is not exactly a tiny number, (compared to the $2600.00 Gold set with a mintage of 10,000..) .. but it's tiny enough that if limited to one per person, fewer than one out of a thousand USA residents could own one. I think the USA population just went over 300 million or is about to. The one-day sell out was surprising, but then again, not surprising, considering the Reverse Proof in it is what must have pushed it to sell out so fast. If it had just been a two coin Unc. and regular Proof pair set with nothing particularly special about the coins themselves (but maybe with fancy schmancy "20th Anniversary" packaging, it probably would have languished on the Mint's site until the end of the year. Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary
The uncirculated coin in the 20th anniversary silver eagle set (and the
two-coin gold and silver set) has a unique characteristic of its own, the "W" mint mark. I believe this coin will have less than 10% of the mintage of the 1996 uncirculated silver eagle, which currently sells at a considerable premium over its silver value. In addition to the reverse proof coin, the uncirculated 20th anniversary coin could become popular in its own right. |

Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary
Are the Uncirculated version with a "W" mintmark exclusive to the 20th
Ann. Sets or are they a new and ongoing addition to the American Eagle Lineup? |

I don't know the answer personally, but, burnished planchets. Please read from "Pressroom"of United States Mint. American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated Coins are being introduced in 2006. These coins feature the same finish as their bullion counterparts, but unlike the American Eagle Bullion Coins, the American Eagle Uncirculated Coins bear the mint mark of the facility that produces them and follow a different path through the manufacturing process. Specifically, the planchets used for American Eagle Uncirculated Coins are burnished, while those used for American Eagle Bullion Coins are not. |

I initially read the announcement on the mint's website the same way, but a quick call to USA-MINT got my order in for the 20th Anniversary SAE set. Nothing sold out about it...yet. ;-) Alan 'future values often dependent on my participation, see 'Dollar;Buffalo' |
