Default General questions from a newbie

Hello Book Collecting Gurus:

I have just begun to appreciate some of my books, and would like to
preserve them for my kids. I would like some advice for the following
questions:

0. I need to read about book collecting. Any classics out there I
should read?

1. I want to wrap the dust jackets of my favorite books with vinyl
covers (ie Brodart). Any suggestions of which ones to use?
I spend enough time reading the Brodart catalog already and I want to
hear real, true experience from users.

2. Should books be rotated (sheved upside down) every few months? How
long should be this rotation period?

3. What is the best way to protect the covers of a paperback?

4. What is the best way to store books printed with NON-Acid free
paper?

Suggestions, ideas, criticisms, are appreciated. Thank you.

Phil Wong

I bought a roll of Brodart's "Just-A-Fold-III" Archival Covers (Up to 10"),
and it has worked fine for nearly all of my needs. For the few books that
exceed 10" in height, one can purchase separate covers. I think the main
thing is that whatever you buy should be archival quality.

As for the rest of your questions, I think you'll find the newsgroup FAQ
helpful and entertaining, as well as covering questions you haven't even
thought of yet! http://www.massmedia.com/~mikeb/rcb/
