Value to US Stamps, 1972 to 1990
Some are valuable, e.g., imperf, color-omitted errors, perforation
varieties, etc. It is possible, but unlikely, you have some of these, and you will need to consult someone knowledgeable to find out. Other stamps may be sold by a dealer for 2-3 times face value, but obviously, they buy them for less than their sales price, and in most cases, less than face value. Nonetheless, some sets, e.g., the submarines prestige booklet of 2000 sell on eBay for 2x face; as do a few other sets. Bottom line: Take your accumulation to a collector or dealer to see if you have anything remarkable. Don't be surprised if she tells you to use them for postage. Rich -- "Cosmic Bandito" wrote in message ... I have inherited a stamp collection which consists of just about anything the US Post Office would have offered from 1972 to around 1990 - from commemorative sets to literature. At one time, I read that most of these stamps have no value and people purchase them below "face" value and use them as regular postage. I noticed a 1987 commemorative sets going for 2-3 x face value. What's the best way to tell what's worth keeping / selling and what's worth using as postage? -Mike |
