Can I have a genuine Facit 165 if the overprint is black and the stamp
is cancelled with a Tollur cancel (that's probably OK according to
Facit), but the black overprint?

Yesterday I talked to some members of the Danish Iceland-collectors
Club and they say: No, you cant have a black overprint - it's always
red as Blair found for us.

I have now taken a few photos of the overprint with my brand new
Traveller USB-microscope (about 30 euros in the ALDI shop):

http://www.norbyhus.dk/artiklermm/di...r/hopflug.html

Now I'm not in doubt : it's a faked overprint made by photocopy and
it's easy to see the coal grains.

Thanks Victor for trying and Blair for posting a nice genuine stamp!

Hello Toke,

Could you tell me a little bit more on this USB microscope ?

For instance a screen capture showing this product or a copy of the 1st
page of the manual (if there is a picture of the microscope on it)

I made a search on ALDI's Internet site (French version)
http://www.aldi.fr/index.shtml
but there is no search engine on this site :-(

Many thanks in advance !

Bonsoir Pierre,

[Many thanks Victor, that is precisely what I was searching for.
I thus will be able to show that to Aldi France and ask them if
one day they are going to sell this USB microscope here.

Thanks also to Toke for the information on this relatively cheap
device]

Others have confirmed what I was about to say, namely that
a black overprint is not in SG, and the images posted certainly confirm
that.

General Balbo's adventures certainly created a lot of expensive
stamps!

I have had the good fortune to acquire another Italian triptych
pair at a very reasonable price. 4 pilots acquired plus an odd stamp,
leaving only 15 and a half pairs to get (a friend has just acquired the last
in
the set after several years trying).

See http://www.italianstamps.co.uk/kingd...ail/index.html
for a nice block (I have another similar block for the other denomination).

Even at the time having 20 copies of each denomination caused an uproar
in the philatelic press due to the total cost of 1500 lire at a time when an
ordinary air letter cost 1.25 lire.

Does anyone know what the USD/ITL or GBP/ITL exchange rates were in 1933?

Hello Pierre,

(Thanks Victor). There are several sites showing the microscope, e.g.
http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers...uys3_14842.htm

The problem with Aldi is that they sometimes offer special goodies in
a limited period so one should buy when it shows up. Though, you can
always return it in 30 days if you don't like it (in Denmark at least)
- but for 299 DKkr. it was a find and very easy to use. It can't
replace a scanner as you can't take a photo of a whole stamp - but it
fantastic when you need a snapshot of a small area of the stamp.
It gives you an RGB picture 1280 x 1024 which you easily can
manipulate/resize in Paint Shop Pro etc.

I know that several of my friends were to late - the microscope was
sold out, so it's probably wise to ask your local Aldi-store about the
microscope.

In the manual I can see that it is produced by
Supra Foto-Electronik-Vertriebs-GmbH
Denisstrasse 28A
D-67663 Kaiserslautern
Germany

Does anyone know if Aldi has stores in Canada?

We have Costco (similar?) but I could not
find these microscopes there.
