Wurlitzer 3010 repair help
I am attempting to restor a 3010 and am having a problem with the selector
circuit. The 50 record unit uses a combination of a 1/2 wave rectifier and two solenoids to make the selections. Teh rectifier is the old fashioned selenium type that is square and has cooling fins on it. It was made by Sarkes Tarzan who is long out of business. The rectifier is shot and I need to put in a substitute circuit. Doe anyone on this group have a fix for this issue? Thanks in advance for any solution you may be able to offer. Jim |

I don't remember the details, but if you search or ask at
rec.antiques.radio+phono this subject has been discussed before. Here is just one of numerous instances. "FrankG" wrote in message ... Hey all, I have a rather dumb question to ask. I have been reading that it is best to replace the selenium rectifier with a silicon version such as a 1N4007 and adding a 50 ohm 1 or 2 watt resistor in series with it. Is this right? And which way should the banded end of the diode be facing? towards filter caps or away from them? Any help would be appreciated as I am not an electronics genius. Yes, this is correct.. and use a 2 watt resistor, for the safety factor. The band (cathode) end of the silicon diode goes toward the filter caps. "TheMurf" wrote in message ... Jim If you replace a selenium rectifier with a silicon rectifier you MUST make certain to fuse the AC side of the bridge. Selenium bridge rectifiers will fail OPEN while Silicon will SHORT - blowing the transformer in the process. For the Wurlitzers you do not require a load resistor, simply take a 25A/200PIV bridge rectfier and install it in place of the open selenium bridge, taking care to wire the AC and DC lines correctly! FUSE the AC SIDE!!! Same value as the DC is just fine. Wurlitzer 3010 repair help
John, Thanks for the great information. This all makes sense to me. I have
replaced the rectifier before successfully but by trial and error. I'm glad to have the correct information. I'll give it a try.
