Default U.S. stamp with mail early appendix

Dear fellow collectors,

On October 24th, 1967 and again on April 3rd, 1973 a U.S. stamp was
issued picturing George Catlett Marshall (20c). In my Michel catalog it
is listed under number 935; Scott number 1289(?). The catalog also
mentions the stamp with a "ZIP Code Appendix" and with a "Mail Early
Appendix".

I think that the "Zip Code Appendix" is the 5 digit sheet number (?). I
have no idea what the "Mail Early Appendix" looks like.

There were many US stamps issued with Mail Early and ZIP Code on the
tabs or margins as we call them. The Zip Code is the City of delivery.
USPS promoted the Zip Code +4 for quite some time to identify the
delivery point. It seems to have gone down the tubes pretty much.
Theoretically if you placed 33563-2906 USA on the face of a mailing,
nothing else, it would be delivered to my house.
The Mail Early thing was to induce people to get their Christmas
packages out early to aviod the last minute rush.
On October 24th, 1967 a U.S. stamp was issued picturing George Catlett
Marshall (20c).Scott number 1289........True
April 3rd, 1973 a U.S. stamp was issued picturing George Catlett
Marshall (20c)....I can find nothing about this issue, tell me more.

The October 24th, 1967 stamp was issued on normal paper [german:
normales papier]. The April 3rd, 1973 stamp was re-issued/reprinted(?)
on phosphor paper or phosphor print [german: phosphoraufdruck].

So the Mail Early stamp is just one stamp with a tab and the text "Mail
early" printed on the tab; similar to the Zip code tab.

You are half right. The "plus four" digits refer to which side of the
street is the address. All my neighbors on the same side of my street have
an identical plus-four, and those on the other side have a plus-four that is
one digit higher or lower.

This is used for sorting the mail. The delivery person will still have to
arrange the mail by the individual house number.

Thanks anyway Jay, but I only have Michel Europa CEPT catalog. It only
lists the 935 because of its relation with Europe. 857 and 893 are not
listed in the CEPT catalog.

Maybe you could scan the page and send it to my e-mail address.
