Rock-Ola 1468-- T.T. to fast
I have a 1468 R-O that runs to fast. I tested it with a tach. It's not
much, but just enough to be able to tell. Dia. of mtr. shaft checks out. Has new idler wheel. Compared to another mtr. Spring on end of mtr. shaft is ok. Any ideas? Thanks |

I can't recall if your idler wheel has two tires (short stack) or just one. If it is two tires, then make sure you have the correct wheel as that sets the speed - if it only has one tire then it has no effect on the speed until it hardens and starts slipping. Rock-Ola 1468-- T.T. to fast
Robert, most of the older machines ran fast.Wurlitzer beginning with
the 1700-up, all Seeburg select o mats etc. The Rowe/AMI beginning with the 1100 mech (L) were bizarre, so much so that an old operator said that they would stretch the spring that holds the puck against both motor and turntable which then creates slippage--dumb idea but what would you expect. The solution for this is to first make sure that the motor pulley is clean and free from any rubber deposits. If so then you'll have to - carefully- grind down the diameter of the motor pulley with a fine file. A contact file is OK for this. First mask off the motor shaft so that filings don't get into the bearing then with motor running gently hold the file evenly against the shaft for a few seconds. Then clean it with alcohol place the turntable back and listen to a song. It will probably be necessary to repeat several times ---use caution it is not reversible--! You really should have a strobe disk for this, try Google-ing "turntable strobe disk" you may find one that you can download and print out. Make sure they give you the exact size it should be printed. Neon, 60 HZ LEDs or fluorescent powered by magnetic (old style) ballasts are needed for viewing. I have done this dozens of times for both jukes and home turntables. I recommend leaving it slightly fast to compensate for the drag that the heavy pickups on these machines cause. The purpose of the spring is to increase the motor shaft diameter and thus increase the speed that the idler shaft turns on machines that were imported with U.S. (60 Hz) motors. --Bob |

Could be that the TT-Motor is hanging over on one side .... Best regards, Ron |
