Without having it in hand or seeing a top-quality photograph of it, enlarged
to several diameters, plus having the terms of the transaction spelled out,
as well as the identity and reputation of the seller clearly visible, I
would pay nothing.

It's a very common modern coin from the USA that I don't collect, and to
make it worse it's entombed in a silly plastic slab with a silly grade on it
so I would pay nothing for it.

If I was to ask you this question,

Contemporary counterfeit UK crown 1696 silver plated with base metal showing
through in places, graded poor, how much would you pay for this very
interesting counterfeit?

What would your answer be? I expect it will the same as my answer to the
OP's question.

The OP asked a question and I answered it, I expect others may give a
different answer, what's your answer to the original question. Billy

It would be worth about $125.00 to me. I don't know what the pop numbers
are, but I suspect a registry collector would pay quite a bit more. You
might want to check the Teletrade archives to get a better idea.

As I suspected you don't know what it is.

It's not a "very common" coin. It's a matte finished uncirculated
Jefferson nickel only available in the Jefferson Coin and Currency
Set. The mintage was 75,000 and NGC (for those who care) has graded 33
at SP-70. The only other similar matte nickel the Mint has produced
was in the 1997 Botanic Gardens Coin and Currency Set (mintage
25,000). These two nickels are the keys to a complete Jefferson nickel
set.

The OP asked a question and I answered it, I expect others may give a

I don't need one...I already have one (unslabbed). I've got the '97 as
well.

My answer is still "nothing". If they had graded only one as MS70 my answer
would still be "nothing".

If you were interested how much would you pay for the OP's coin?

Or how much do you think it's worth?

As 75,000 were made, thank you for that information, "scarce" would be more
accurate than "very common". The Royal Mint regularly produces coins with
mintages in the low 10,000's so 75,000 is quite a lot but allowing for the
USA coin collecting population being perhaps 10 to 20 times that of the USA
the availability per collector is not that different.

If the original poster had asked how much the coin was worth I would not
have replied, as I don't know, but as they asked how much would I pay for
it, I replied. Billy
