Rowe R-82 Memory Module
I finally managed to get a memory module off E-bay, but naturally it
does not work properly. When you plug it in and clear the memory, it spins the carousel a couple of times and then stops it at record 77. When you credit it up, it allows you to enter selections, but then it never does anything. I also noticed that there is no battery in this unit, and there is a little bit of battery corrosion on the board. Will this module run without the battery? If not, what size is the battery so I can get another one? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! James |

The joy of Ebay!! I bet you could have bought a working one from Bruce
for less than what you payed on Ebay and what it will cause to get it repaired. Battery damage sucks. Charlie |

Rowe R-82 Memory Module
Well I paid less than 1/3 what I was quoted for a working one, so if I
spend a week messing with this one it's no big deal. As long as the 7404 chip is good, which it appears it may be after some fiddling tonight, I can fix it. I have experience fixing battery corrosion on Bally/Stern pinball MPU boards, the little bit on this board should be a piece of cake. I've replaced the caps on the board because some of them looked dried out, but now it is just spinning the carousel without stopping. Last night it would eventually stop, but always at record 77. The DATA and CLOCK leds are pretty much on solid now thought. It's almost like it can't find a reference on the encoder wheel to tell it where it is. However, if I crank the mechinisim by hand to the point where the platter starts spinning, it will stop the carousel, grab whatever record it happens to have stopped at, and plays it. When the record is done, it picks it back up, stores it and starts the carousel spinning again. On 9 Nov 2005 20:21:42 -0800, wrote: The joy of Ebay!!
