Dollar/quarter mule question.
I remember reading that the legality of some of the Sacagawea mule coins
was in question. From what I read, some of the coins were smuggled out of the mint, while others got out legitimately. Has that issue been resolved? Mark |

There was some question about their
legality. I don't believe it was ever resolved. There is one person that owns a small hoard of them. |

The legality question will probably cost the government more to pursue than it
would be worth. Unlike 1933 Saints, the fact that some "Sacamules" turned up in change and Sacabuck rolls would force the government to prove that any particular one was stolen from the mint, which would be difficult, if not impossible. IMO, Fred Weinberg still has the best info available on the Sacagawea Mule. http://www.fredweinberg.com/mules.html Jerry "Mark" ) writes: I remember reading that the legality of some of the Sacagawea mule coins was in question. And that person, said the secret service may confiscate his pieces at any
time but they MUST be able to prove which were smuggled out and which got out through normal channels. This is why the secret service has not made any attempts to take them away....they can't possibly prove which is which. Fred "Mark" wrote in message ... They know the dealer he sold the coins to and they know who bought them and when. Bruce |
