San Francisco Coin Club to issue a medal for ANA convention featuring the Granite Lady
The San Francisco Coin Club is celebrating the return of the American
Numismatic Association convention to San Francisco by issuing a medal set portraying the second San Francisco Branch Mint of the United States. The order form and a picture of the medal may be found at http://exonumia.homestead.com/files/SFCC_Medal2.pdf The medal, designed by Michael Wehner, portrays the Mint building at Fifth and Mission Streets affectionately known as "The Granite Lady". Closed by the Federal Government in 1994, the building is currently undergoing an extensive renovation. Two museums and commercial space are planned. The American Money and Gold Rush Museum will be housed on the ground floor, including the old vaults. The Museum and Historical Society of San Francisco will occupy the first floor. The logo of the San Francisco Coin Club is pictured on the obverse. Proceeds from the sale of this medal set benefit the San Francisco Coin Club. Minted in Silver and Bronze, the medal set is offered for US$25.00 as a set only. Please add US$3.00 for shipping, if required. Medals will be ready in mid-July 2005 in time for the convention. Advance orders must be received by July 2005. You may pickup at the convention by going to the SFCC table in the "Local Club" section. For additional information contact the SFCC, PO Box 880994, San Francisco, CA 94188-0994 or see the website below. Checks payable to the "San Francisco Coin Club". Further details on this medal and a previous one featuring the first SF mint at Commercial Street may be found at my website http://exonumia.homestead.com Regards, Michael Wehner |
