Curiosity Corner #348: eating trees.
"Bush Tucker" = Traditional Aboriginal food. White man has finally discovered what the indigenous Aussies always knew, and a new vegetable will be caressing Australian palates in the near future. We shall be eating the "Upside down tree" http://cjoint.com/data/htkBaPKrLX.htm The Baobab seed pod contains pulp that tastes like very dry apples, (expect that in chocolate soon) New trees are planted in any "gutless" soil, and when the size of a carrot is harvested, the leaves taste a little "peppery" and the very watery root like water chestnut. "The taste of the Kimberleys" Kimberleys=a region North of Perth, Western Australia |

Thanks Blair, to my great embarassment, I found all my life I had been spelling it incorrectly, I thought it to be "Boabab" tree. I wonder if it is a tree at all ? A cross section has no growth rings. Maybe it's an overgrown Tuber |
