... What do you think. Ever heard of one? Thanks.. Wolf http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-inverted-cen...1%7C294%3A5 0 Wolf--Scott Specialized does not list an invert for the stamp, let alone a used one. There is no guarantee that the stamp exists as a physical item. I can take a used $1 Presidential, scan it, "select" the center, "rotate" the selection 180 degrees, and then graphically ink-in the two different cancels (one straight line, one wavy) and produce an image to go with the text. Maybe an RCSD user will buy it and tell us what it looks like if it ever arrives. Stan |

I was looking at some Greek stamps to fill in and came upon a #330b used (CV $7750) from the same seller starting at $0.99. Humm...What else is this guy offering? I went and looked and found the $1.00 invert. I was thinking about going $2.00 on the #330b. I wonder how long he will last oneBay? Wolf-==- |

Tony They had 2 lower offers which they declined. The offer values are no longer shown, but when they were, one was $1, and the other, IIRC, about $350. Chris |

I enlarged the image of the stamp in Photoshop. See it at
http://www.ingraham.ca/bob/fake_wilson.jpg. There are areas that have been worked over with the blur tool, and pixels are softened so that they don't show at all, apparently to hide the inevitable visual discrepancies that would result when the vignette was flipped. I'm not sure why the edges of the stamp also were softened. Maybe to hide "repairs" to the perforation teeth? I dunno. Someone went to a lot of work for this, but if it had sold for $5,000 it would have been work at a good hourly wage. If I were going to try this, I would have a mint stamp to avoid having to deal with the cancellation. I saw one of the faked Seaway "inverts" at a local stamp shop. From the front, it would have fooled anyone, at least with a naked-eye examination. However, when watermark fluid was used, the cuts used to remove the vignette and flip it were very clear. Bob |

Is it possible to employ an escrow service with these and similar dubious purchases? This service will hold your payment and only release it to the seller once you have confirmed that you have received what you paid for. wrote in message ...
