Default US rare stamp question

A older friend of mine asked me a question about rare US stamps
that have alot of value.

I pass along the question(s)...

Are most of the rare US stamps (that have alot of value) Coil Stamps?

Also, after talking with several people in a stamp related discussion,
a few older people mentioned a rare US Lincoln stamp(s).

Anyone have any knowledge regarding any US lincoln stamp that
is considered rare (valuable)?

Some coil stamps do have a higher catalog value than their counter
parts but not necessarily a "lot of value.".

Which catalog do you go by as there are more than one?

Among the top value for Lincoln stamps are Scott #'s 78, around $2750
mint. That is the US 1862 24 cent issue. Of course the 1869 Scott #
122 is around $13,000 in mint condition. Then you get into the
1890-93 Lincoln issue which is only around $360 in mint unmounted
condition. There are for sure more valuable pre 1900 issues from the
US. Which particular stamps are you talking about? Be aware that the
stamp value is based most entirely on the condition of any particular
issue.
Hope that helps.
