Default New group format?

When I enter the group the format has changed, new setup entirely. Has
anyone else exoerienced this? Anyway, I don't like it.

That would be something to do with your nntp client.

No one can remotely change the way a group looks on your machine unless they can
remotely change the software on it (or the software settings).

If you are using Google Groups, they are introducing a new Beta format.
The only solution there is to learn how to configure it to your liking.

A far better solution is to get a newreader (although you need to make sure your
ISP has newsgroup access or you are prepared to pay a small annual to get it).

That way, not only can you have the NG's you view arranged to your liking, the
messages are on your own machine and there is no delay whilst google fetches
pages.

Almost ... most newsreaders will DL the -=headers=- for the messages in
subscribed groups, but you have to select and DL the messages. The choice
here is to mark and DL as a group or double click and fetch individually.
Both have a delay of transmission.

Any decent newsreader will allow you to specify that you want the message bodies
fetched straight away.

True there is a delay whilst the nntp client downloads everything but once
that's done everything is pretty much instant.

Even if you elect to fetch the message bodies 'on demand', the transmission of
between tens and a few hundreds of bytes is, under most circumstances, a hell of
a lot faster than waiting for google to transmit the relevant text along with a
few dozen k of 'page-furniture' and formatting instructions.

Plus, once it's there, it's there, unlike google, where, if you want to go back
and look at a post again, it has to be downloaded once more.

Try http://groups.google.com/support/
I haven't figured it all out myself.
