That's not a valid comparison, if we're thinking of the same
Rasmussen coin, lot 3014. That is an S-12, a rare variety. A
better comparison would be lot 3015, another S-13 EAC G-6 NCS VG
details, which went for $8,050. Even better, the same conclusion
about your coin can still be drawn.

EACers know that we live in a world of our own when it comes to both
grading and pricing. Even Bill Noyes's "Penny Prices" guide, the
successor to CQR, is well behind the times. You have to follow the
auctions and specialist retail dealers such as Beymer, Reynolds and
Victor-McCawley.

There has been discussion here about 2 days ago regarding the price
sheets and these old coppers. It should be noted that Graysheet bid

on
a G-4 is $1600. That's so far out of the realm of reality that it
offers little guidance to values for the scarce old copper cents in

the
1790s.

Ira, I started that discussion, hoping to draw some kindred spirits

out of
the woodwork. I had envisioned a groundswell of protest by RCCers

and
EACers to the editors of the price guides. So far it hasn't happened

yet.
Maybe those editors are keeping the prices low in hopes of buying

coins like
yours for $1600 from widows.

So correct! But the 93 Cap phenomenon had already occurred before his book
went to press, and if a dimbulb such as I knew of it, I would certainly
expect an expert to know of it, too.

Bill knows the score better than just about everybody else, and should have
quoted realistic numbers in a book that retails for $35.
