1793 Liberty Cap 1c NGC G-4 sells for $9200
This, a corroded piece, corroded on both sides, at the Rasmussen sale
at the Heritage Auction #360 at the FUN show. Therefore, my smooth 1793 Lib Cap in PCGS G-4 might well be a bargain at $7650! See my eBay item at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=3953674 528 There has been discussion here about 2 days ago regarding the price sheets and these old coppers. It should be noted that Graysheet bid on a G-4 is $1600. That's so far out of the realm of reality that it offers little guidance to values for the scarce old copper cents in the 1790s. Ira Stein |

Ira Stein Ira, I started that discussion, hoping to draw some kindred spirits out of the woodwork. I had envisioned a groundswell of protest by RCCers and EACers to the editors of the price guides. So far it hasn't happened yet. Maybe those editors are keeping the prices low in hopes of buying coins like yours for $1600 from widows. James 'cynic? me? pshaw!' |

Ira, I want your penny, but I'm afraid that if I buy it you'll just have to refund the $7650 a month later to cover my funeral expenses when my wife finds out... Doesn't seem like such a bargain when you put it THAT way! Reminds me of the joke: "What's the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS?" Answer: "You can reason with a terrorist." Ira (You can't take it with you) I told my wife I wanted to take it all with me. She said she'd write me a check for the full value and put it in the box with me. I have learned that the editors are very confident in their pricing methodology and will not let such minor things as sale prices impact their statistical analysis.
