Coin shop vs. wife's career

Just when I thought things were going well. My wife has been offered a HUGE
promotion from her employer (the Boy Scouts of America). The problem is that
they want her at the National office near Fort Worth Texas. This is one of
those "you can't say no to" opportunities. So, it looks like we will be
moving to Texas. My partner will step up and handle the store here in Utah,
and I guess I'll find something to do in Texas. Anybody want to hire me??

I wonder that Ft. Worth would be a nice town for a new coin shop?

Too bad it's not in Dallas, Wes. With your experience, I'll bet
Heritage would have hired you.

Dallas is not really that far away from Ft. Worth, just live in between
them. Believe me Ft. Worth is closer to Dallas than it is to drive across
Houston.

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Heritage been advertising for help
recently?
I agree with Ira Wes, check with them. Max Mehl is out of business
anyway. 8-)

Too bad you have to leave beautiful Utah, but good luck with whatever comes
down the pike. The fast track of Dallas/Ft Worth will be a BIG change from
little, laid back St George. Hope everything goes smoothly for you guys.

Well, nobody in their right mind would drive "across" Houston ... most
sane folk get on loop 610 as soon as they can and just drive around
it, then take whatever exit you need to get where you're going! g
That way it would only take between an hour and 1-1/2 hr. as opposed
to the 4 hr. drive to Dallas. OTOH, I haven't been there in a few
years, so maybe 610 has also become totally impossible...??

"In between" D/FW isn't really such a good idea, since there's only
the toll freeway there. But there are many nice places to live north
of both Dallas and Ft. Worth -- Denton, for example, would be equally
close to either city, and there is a lot going on culturally there.
For example, there is NTSU which has a famous music department,
especially for jazz. And there are great restaurants EVERYWHERE (just
think: "prime rib"!)

Wes, I'm sure that you will find a lot about Utah that you will miss
in Texas -- especially the mountainous terrain, if you are the outdoor
type. But you are surely a big fish a small pond (Utah) when it comes
to coins. In Texas, I am sure that you will have every opportunity to
become an even bigger fish, but in a very big pond!

Good luck to y'all now! (from a former Texas boy now living in
Switzerland).

Start another store.
Of course that's way easier said than done considering the capital and
inventory you need just to open a halfway decent store.

From what I've seen of both St. George, Utah and Fort Worth Texas, there may
be some visual sticker shock in store for your family. Nothing meant
against Fort Worth per se, because I'm sure it offers things that St. George
couldn't. But it will probably be easier on your neck, what with not having
to look up at the red cliffs and mountains anymore.

Will you be maintaining a part ownership in the Utah store at all after the
move?

Bruce
