Coin of Holy Roman Empire period
I have a coin, metal uncertain, colour (in its condition) blackish;
diameter 16mm. One side: double headed eagle with crown above 2 heads, eagle contained in fine circle; legend CAROL.D.G.R.I.S.A. 1729. Other side: an odd assemblage of symbols within a fine circle, legend S.LVCI.M.ET.CVRIE. Clearly the first legend refers to Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor, also King Charles III of Hungary, and briefly Charles III of Spain. Can anyone help me with the other side? I suspect it refers to a German state? or perhaps a religious authority? As near as I can tell, S LVCI M ET CVRIE would translated as "St Lucia Maria and Court" - which is not instructive to me. Also any info as to identity of issuing nation, denomination, metal woudl be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Muruk |

I'd really like to see a scan and find out what's on the reverse side. If you e-mail me the "jpg" files, I'd be happy to put them on my site, or you could post them on the alt.binaries.pictures.numismatic newsgroup. Best wishes... - Jim Roberts (remove all z's from my address to respond by mail) http://someoldcoins.org/saur/ (Some early German coins, ca. 1280-1620) |
