Default People are stupid

I've totally lost my faith in the human race. People lie, cheat,
steal, kill, and worst of all overgrade coins. My cynicism runneth
over. Here's an auction for an 1804 half cent. Cool year. The coin is
holed, as some were, and some collect 'em holed (weirdoes). But the
seller otherwise describes the coin using these words, capitalization,
and punctuation: "NICE COIN!! ... nice original coin ... very nice
looking coin ... great upgrade or addition to any collection." Here's
the beauty:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270156325309

I know. Marketing hype. But it's stupid when it's this far removed
from reality.

It's hard to imagine that this piece would be an upgrade to anybody's
collection, as the seller says. But coin collecting isn't pretty, and a guy
has to be tough in order to survive. Don't give up the ship and all that
rot.

The seller just used the same text on all the descriptions. Go to
their store and search for Draped Bust Half Cent (there are currently
5) All have the same description with the only difference being the
year.

I've noticed a lot of sellers seem to do the same thing, using the
same template description for every auction.

All coins of the same type are the same. So why not be more efficient
by using the same description for all of them. Makes sense to me.

Sometimes being 'realistic' helps.

A local pub used to advertise 'Warm beer. Bad food' and the place was very popular.
Mind you, I never felt attracted enough to go!

Honesty and advertising are almost by definition contradictory. g
But the best advertising is as much informational as it is
promotional. Problem is there are precious few examples of it.

Among the more interesting ads are debate ads. Two sandwich chains
here in the U.S., Quiznos and Subway, have been going at it. Actually,
it's been Quiznos attacking Subway, with Subway, thus far, not
responding directly. Only Quiznos is attacking stupidly, attacking
Subway for making tasteless sandwiches. Subway has promoted itself for
making healthy sandwiches, low in fat, and in my experience their
sandwiches are both healthy and tasty. Comparatively, the sandwiches
of Quiznos appear to be high in saturated fat and salt, so they're
tasty I guess to people who are used to eating junk food.

Quiznos looked at stupid as any company I can remember looking when it
promoted in one of it commercials a cheesesteak that appears to be
about as unhealthy a sandwich as you could possibly devise. It had a
woman say, "It's not lacking any meat, and that's what real women
need." I just checked the Wikipedia entry for Quiznos, and it seems
that other people felt the same way about the stupidity of that
statement.

Actually, here's my nomination for the unhealthiest sandwich possible:
bacon and American cheese on white bread. Grill it in lard, and throw
in a side order of pork rinds, eat one twice a week, and you're almost
guaranteed to have heart disease in ten years, not to mention cancer
from the nitrates and smoke in the bacon.

Talking about off-topic. g

I've eaten that kind of stuff for over 60 years and am as healthy and at a
perfect weight as one could expect to be at this age. Most people my age
grew up on it, too, before those dueling scientists began to find fault with
classic food pyramids and just about every type of food along with how it's
prepared. Most all the things you mentioned were part of a healthy diet at
one time. I do eat the "good stuff" du jour, too. It's not as tasty,
though.

You cheated....you actually took a couple of minutes to search his
listings for similar coins ;-)

I was ready to call the seller lazy, but that would be unfair. He's
got 2250 current auctions running so he's just using shortcuts.

The really "stupid" person is the one who would be duped by his "NICE
COIN" when he clearly states the coin is holed and includes clear
images showing the poor, holed condition of the coin. He also provides
a gallery image that would keep most people from clicking oon the
auction link in the first place.

Calling the seller stupid is stupid.

Calling the seller stupid is stupid.

I think that calling the person who called the seller stupid is stupid.

I think you missed a "stupid." I think that what you meant to say is:
"I think that calling the person who called the seller stupid stupid
is stupid." Or, diagrammatically: I think that (calling (the person
who called the seller stupid) stupid) is stupid.

Either that, or you think calling Reid (on the phone) is stupid.

Either way, you misread Phil's statement. Phil said that CALLING the
seller stupid is stupid. Phil did not say that the person calling the
seller stupid is stupid.
