Default BAREFOOT 411...VIGGO MORTENSEN

hey all. i'll send in another report...i'll let that other coward rip-
but i don't care...he's a loser with nothing better to do...so here
goes..
last night there was a fundraiser/ book reading in little tokyo about
people who have protested wars and american laws for year...the
celebrity list was pretty good. Danny Glover, Marissa Tomei, Josh
Brolin, Sandra Oh, Kerry Washington...a few others who didn't show up
and some who took their places... there was actually a rehearsal the
night before which was pretty good too...but the main attraction of the
evening was the most elusive of lord of the rings people VIGGO
MORTENSEN. he usually likes signing autographs, but if you know
anything about viggo, you know that this probably isn't the best
place...when he does poetry readings and the like, he usually
says,"guys, this isn't the time or place. catch me at a movie event."
most of the time people are happy about it...
well, on the way in, no one signed..people came at staggering times,
many saying,"maybe, on the way out." then viggo showed up. and
proceeded to say,"no, I'm late." and then walked to the little korean
mall across the street to buy t shirts and markers..he signed for 3
people when he came back- very quick like, and he whipped out this HUGE
basketball marker for the autographs. me, yeah ya and another guy named
richard got him, then he RAN off into the theater...obviously, he
personalized everything (as he always does)
it was on the way out that things took a turn for the worse...
as i said, everyone signed on the way out of the theater. danny glover
tried like hell to tell us "no" but he still did it- telling us some
story about how he just came back from rio or barbados or something for
a film festival...
it was pretty crowded. with marissa tomei refusing anything from
"untamed heart" but signing up a storm- really way apart from her
normal routine. then the theater people booted us from the back area.
even though they were walking everyone to a party.
after we got the boot, everyone crowded around for the after party.
trust me when i say there were a lot of people waiting around to see
viggo- people who purchased tickets to this shindig just to see him and
have him sign something. lots of little girls (around 19 or so)...then
came the news "we snuck him out, i'm sorry" said the theater
people...these people were crushed...but while the theater people were
trying to sell us on him being gone, he came walking up for the party.
man it was nuts. people just surrounded him as he started to sign. then
he announced "i'm not here to sign lord of the rings s@#$!" he yelled.
"i'll sign the book, that's what i'm f@#$ing here for" and he grabbed
someone's book and signed it. and he kept yelling about how he's not
someone to be prodded like a cow and some other nonsense. then it got
worse. some guy (i actually know who it was, and i'm not going to say
he was wrong for what he did, viggo started it- you have no idea what
he was spewing out of his mouth at the collectors AND regular fans) but
this guy proceeded to tell him," thanks for nothing viggo, sat out here
for 5 hours, went to the reading and you can't sign- way to take care
of your fans." then it got UGLY- viggo was jarring back and fourth with
the guy and MANY expletives were exchanged. it was bad. viggo got up
and left...so did the guy...then viggo came back- did some more
hollering and finally said"alright, everyone get in a line, i'll take
care of everyone- and this is the last f@#$ing time i'm doing this
s@#$. i'll even sign for the rude guy." but that guy dissappeared.some
people got more than 1, he personalized everything. only signed with
black marker etc. but all the while he was questioning "do i have to do
this every time i leave the f!@#ing house?" "s it that much to ask to
keep my interests separate from my movie career." "this is sick, it was
a nice night and some people have got to ruin it." and he never backed
off his claim- he did keep saying "this is the LAST time i'm signing
autographs ever. so you guys better be f@#$ing happy!" even with all
the kind words exchanged to him and the thanks he got from the people
who did stick around to get autographs with many well wishes- herefused
photos with...and that was it, he didn't go to the party, he complained
all the way to the car afterward. it was bad.
that's how it gets in hollywood sometimes- i'm sure the guy wouldn't
have went off on viggo if he hadn't spent all that time out there and
if viggo wouldn't have swore at all of us in front of his kid. i may
not get along with the guy, but i have to defend his actions as it's
all messed up that a celebrity can pull that stunt. it happens more
frequently then you think. celebrites do often pull the "i'm better
than you!" bs that they so routinely knock down when they are on oprah
or jay leno.
it's sad too, i see everything that viggo does, have for a long
time...the guy is excellent and does very strange work.
but it's going to get like this...just like some people refuse star
wars, i bet viggo stops signing LOTR stuff or maybe altogether like he
said- he's already announced on his website that he won't sign
autographs TTM anymore due to the volume of mail he receives. and i
won't be surprised if he doesn't keep his word on this one..and i've
heard reprots that ian mckellan and liv tyler have stopped signing
LOTR- orlando bloom bitches when he sees a bunch of LOTR stuff at the
same time. just like star wars people, this may get real bad. sorry
viggo- hope it was jsut one bad night.
that's my report on this one. get to the ripping whatever your name is
this week.

What a real shame. But it's a machine that won't go away... he'll
either have to learn a way to deal with it or change careers (even
then people will bug him). But the least fans can do is show some
interest in his new projects and not only LOTR

He may not like it but most people are only turning up because of LOTR.
He should be happy, he could easily be one of the forgotten actors who
know one remembers. Certains jobs come with certain criteria. Some of
us are on call for work, have to work nights weekends, it's what comes
of the job you accepted. He chose the job know he can deal with the
conditions. If he loved acting so much and didn't want the fame or
money he could have easily found a job at a local playhouse and acted
on the weekends.

Agreed; I mean so you are say guy number 2 in Hotel elevator or
something in a B movie and no one knows your name. You remain unknown
and therefore casting directors won't even know you... doing something
like LOTR gives you virtually forever reconizability. With such an
epic production and signing on for three of them, you KNOW it's either
going to be a HUGE success or HUGE flop because of the time and
expense right? Either way, your name is associated with it in the
books and in peoples minds for a long time to come. If he didn't know
that, he lacked common sense...

He chose it...

it is too bad. viggo is one of the nice guys out there who usually
signs when his publicist tells him not to. he personalizes everything
and always has- which means that he's being nice...
i've seen him have great conversations with fans over the last few
years and speaking in MANY different languages when he does it. showing
a intellect, not your normal actor. which really what viggo is, not
your normal actor, no doubt. it would be a shame to see an autograph
casualty of this caliber. have to say this though, paparazzi don't
bother him at all, pictures of him running around santa monica with no
shoes on (yes, barefoot) aren't worth anything.
