What was your first note?
This is a carry-over from a similar discussion on
Rec.Collecting.Coins. For "note" you can include any of the forms of paper money. My first collectible paper money was a set of stock certificates from Clinton Hollis. That was 1993 or so. However, I really never considered myself a collector of paper money per se until 1999 when I bought a France 50 Franc Saint-Exupery. Since then, I have continued to assemble my set of aviation themes on world banknotes. In addition, I have collections of Scientists, Musicians & Instruments, and Writers & Poet, all of which I work on over time now and then at shows and conventions, mostly, though I have also been able to work well with a couple of world dealers here in the USA. So, for me, my "first" was that Little Prince note. |

50 ¢ Series 661 MPC, my father brought it back from Viet-nam and I remember
getting it when I was about 7 years old, I liked it because it was much more colourful than the regular money I saw. I am just amazed sometimes that I never thought at the time of taking it to a store and trying to spend it. I still have it, in my somewhat dimunitive MPC collection. My first Scottish banknote came as a gift, also from my paternal numismatic encourager, ca. 1979 and was a Bank of Scotland £1 note from 1978. At last count I have some 300+ Scottish banknotes. Little did I know then, my hobby would become an obsession. Dave "Michael E. Marotta" wrote in message om... This is a carry-over from a similar discussion on Rec.Collecting.Coins. My first note was a 3 Euro from Fiesole, a town outside Florence, Italy. ...my wife and I were visiting in the late 1990s. I am surprised. At first, when we exchanged email -- you asked me to help ID jets on banknotes -- I thought you were a portly guy in late middle age. Your picture on your website was disproof by counterexample. Then, I was surprised by the depth of your continuing achievements with the Apple Macintosh. Now, I am again taken aback by your revelation that you are newer to numismatics than even I am. In addition, you are not limited to collecting, but buy and sell as a dealer. That is impressive. |

Thanks for helping with the airplane identification a while back.
Unfortunately I have been unable to interest an editor in the article idea, but I'm still trying. I am more of a dabbler dealer in notes than a real full-time dealer. Basically, I do it to support my note-buying habit. Also, I've been disappointed with the service some dealers offer, so I try to be the kind of guy I would like to buy from (fast, responsive, honest, etc.). On 9/1/03 7:00 PM, in article , "Michael E.
