Default value of a found half sovereign

In a cupboard of a 1920's house we are rebuilding we found a miniture
coin purse and found a number of coins
a number of farthings 3 pennies and a half sovereign minted in
Melborne Australia in 1915 with BP as the
modeller of the St George side, George V facing to the left on the
other side.
I have found 1913 coin minted in Sydney on ebay for 75 pounds
1915 was the last year these were minted in melbourne and the Kings
head faces the other way
Can anyone give a better price range other than that as the wife is
talking about having it mounted
on a ring.

I would suggest not mounting the coin on anything, because it could
damage the coin. Maybe a bezzel would be ok. But I couldn't give you a
price without seeing the coin. If you like I could give you a range of
prices?

It's worth ~AUD$120 at today's prices. This coin is common, and sells for
melt value + a little premium. It would cost you about AUD$140. I'm afraid
I don't know what that is in sheep.

No half sovs were minted in Sydney (or anywhere else in Australia) in 1913.
Full sovs were. Regardless, the only half sov around then with value
exceeding its melt value is the 1918 Perth strike.

I'm impressed that a coin novice can recognise a half sovereign
(parenthetically: "yet not know its value"). Their identity is not
immediately obvious.

Mount it on a ring by all means. It's your coin (I assume) to do with as
you wish. Its metal value exceeds its numismatic worth, so it would only be
aesthetic considerations which would prevent you from mounting or drilling
or piercing it.

No it doesn't. George V's head ALWAYS faces left. That of Edward VII faces right,
but the last year of his coins is 1911.

Condition is important, but have a look at http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk
if you want to find the values of half sovereigns.
