Unopened Bundesbank bags of pre-Euro coins
Anyone know where I could pick up a few of the 10kg or larger bags that have
truly never been opened and searched? I see lots of them on eBay but they are very rarely sealed bags. Most have been opened and, I'm sure, at least scanned for any better coins. I've bought some the opened ones and the "sewn" ones and really found nothing unusual in them. I'd like to try some that have been untouched since Bundesbank sealed them. I have Googled it and searched European websites to no avail but someone is selling them because eBay sellers tell me that they are expecting new shipments. Thanks |

They are out of stock now, but you can buy them here if you are willing to pay the price: http://bestworldcoins.com/?item=21lbwc Though being unsearched may or may not be a good thing. You could end up with far more duplicates that way. And I'm skeptical that the banks don't quickly go through them for gold and silver. It might even be possible to mechanically search for precious metals? Anyway, I bought a 5 pound mix from the same seller on eBay for $40. Not the best price for a mix, but it was a pretty good mix even though the coins were rather dirty and lower grades. |

Thanks Why would any European banks have bags of (pre-Euro) foreign coins to dispose of? Why would they have taken them in in the first place, if it was "too much trouble" to redeem them in the issuing country? Reclining Buddha The Original Couch Potato! |

Although I doubt many of the coins come from transactions at teller windows, maybe customers put them in ATM deposit envelopes? Or they get dumped into coin counting machines the banks have? I am surprised at how many coins they have though. |
