Can one open almost anonymous safe deposit box?
Are all safe deposit boxes, along with SSNs of their holders,
registered in some central Fed database? I would like to know if I can open a safe deposit box at a bank, such that it would not be easily findable, except by inquiring the bank where I have it (such as some obscure bank). I want to store some lawful personal items, but in a very private manner. I am looking for practical answers. M.F. |

Can one open almost anonymous safe deposit box?
In general, I don't think any bank would give out information on its safety
deposit box hoilders unless there is a legitinare reason for doing so, e.g., law enforcement officials investigating a crime or heirs searching for assets after the death of a boxholder. -- Richard http://www.richlh.com Sometimes God calms the storm. Can one open almost anonymous safe deposit box?
MF, as long as the bank is unknown to the person doing the snooping,
you're safe. There is no federal database of safe deposit boxes. If the bank is known to the snoop, the bank will open the box with their master key if served with a search warrant. It's hard to keep your bank secret, btw. |

Can one open almost anonymous safe deposit box?
My mom was a bank manager up until the early 1980's. I know they did not have a "master" key to safe deposit boxes. The couple of times that they had to open a box (by court order), it had to be drilled out. Apparently with some of the new Homeland Security Act provisions, the Gpv. can now search you safe deposit box and possible take any gold, silver or guns stored there. As a side bar, I remember my mom telling me that someone years ago had a disagreement with the bank. Apparently they got so upset they rented a safe deposit box, placed a couple of frozen fish in it and left. It took quite sometime to figure out exactly which box it was and more time to legally open it.... |

The bank dosn't have a "master key". The bank will have 1 of two keys
needed to open the box. The other key is kept by the renter and must be used to open the box. If the bank is served witha search warrent then a lock smith will come in and drill out the locks to open the box. My brother worked as a bank manager and boxs that were unpaid after so long are dilled and everything is turned over to the state where the bank is. Most box's were drilled have nothing in them, tho my brother did find in one that was drilled a nice 10c dimond. gravity |

That must have driven the vault operators wild. |
