Ancient Copy
After reading a bit in here about the differences between copies and
counterfeits, I feel somewhat comfortable showing this without worrying that the secret coin copy cops might bust down the door take me out of circulation. My ex's mudder gave this to me several years ago. Can anyone tell me what it's a copy of? Is it worth anything? http://www.angelfire.com/az2/beefy/copy.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/az2/beefy/copy2.jpg Thanks! |

What you have there is a (copy of a) coin from Greek Sicily, Magna Graecia, specifically from the town of Gela, ca. 490-475 BC. The obverse shows a driver with a biga, or a two-horse chariot. The reverse depicts the local river god Gelas in the form of a bull with a man's face. Anka Z Co-president of the once thriving, but now defunct, Tommy John Fan Club. Go, Lake County Captains! |

I nearly bought the 'bag of uncleaned, unidentified ancients' from Worldwide Treasure Bureau a few years back. Of course it was the 'much better condition than we usually offer' bag.. and I woulda had to get the $5 soft wire brass brush and the $75 Roman Coins and Their Values book by David Sear. Think I opted for a root canal instead. ~AZ 'plans to collect ancients in my next life' |

I bought mine from a fellow RCCer for much less than that! And don't wait for your reincarnation to start collecting ancients. There are some very affordable, beautiful old coins out there...
