Fontaine - disposable f.p.
Found one of these yesterday that I must've stashed away in an old book bag
over 5 years ago, and soon remembered why I liked them back then - very smooth writer, very fine nib, and really nice turquoise ink (I think the only other one I had back then was more of a reddish-pink, which I didn't like.) I immediately decided to get more of them, to keep in my desk at work as needed (also because I like to have some cheapies to give away to students who seem interested in writing with a fountain pen - I've hooked quite a few that way.) However, I can't find them anywhere on the web, and think they might be out of production now. I know that Pilot still makes the disposable (or at least, up till recently), but is the Berol Fontaine still around? And if not, is there any other disposable that writes well and would be good to keep around? Thanks! Sally |

I believe the Berol Fontaine is no longer in production. I have played with
a Pilot Varsity and it did not perform badly for a disposable pen. A hint of drag on paper in the one that I tested but a very consistant line and no skipping. One pen is not a fair sample, but I have read several posts regarding the Varsity and the opinions expressed were geneally favorable. Gordon |

Unfortunate since they are well-behaved disposables. I have not disposed of mine though - when they ran out, I pulled the endcap off them and refilled. IMO - the Pilot Varsity is better - though a broader nib from what I've seen. But if I *could* find the Fontaine, I'd buy a pack. I hear they sometimes show up in dollar stores but... that was some time ago. -- KCat For Pen Talk, Images, Trading and Reviews: The Fountain Pen Network http://pagesperso.laposte.net/fpnet For Lupus Support and Info http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/ASLFAQ/ |
