Approximate Value request, please
I am a coin collector, and know nothing about currency/bills at all.
Recently, I began going through my collection started over 50 years ago. I am getting ready to sell it off since none of our children are interested and I don't want to leave a big job for someone else when I'm no longer around. Anyway, I ran across five $2.00 bills that I assume I got from a bank years ago. I have no idea why I saved them, but I did. I was recently talking to a coin dealer and he said he didn't know anything about bills but thought these might have some value, but he could not make even a ballpark estimate. So, I am posting pictures here and if you guys would give me an opinion, I would most grateful. The first four are in pristine condition; crisp and never folded or circulated. They have consecutive serial numbers, if that makes any difference. The pictures are scans made at 500 bpi. If you need more info', let me know. 1. Ser' number ending in: 1065A http://aycu28.webshots.com/image/219...1494920_rs.jpg 2. Ser' number ending in: 1066A http://aycu32.webshots.com/image/190...2285361_rs.jpg 3. Ser' number ending in: 1067A http://aycu22.webshots.com/image/207...8959181_rs.jpg 4. Ser' number ending in:1068A http://aycu28.webshots.com/image/219...7746222_rs.jpg The fifth one is obviously circulated. I don't know how to grade bills, but it is better than average bill one gets in everyday change. 5. Ser' number ending in: 2275A http://aycu04.webshots.com/image/196...5496804_rs.jpg If these have any value, I am going to sell them but not sure how. I am not on eBay yet, but am considering it as a vehicle to sell my coins. These may be the first items I put up. Would it be best to put the four consecutive serial numbered bills up as one unit, or separately, a few weeks apart? Thanks again for your time and trouble. Bob-tx |

Would it be best to put the four consecutive serial numbered bills up as one unit, or separately, a few weeks apart? Ebay will probably be your best bet for selling them, as you would get considerable exposure. A quick look at 1953 US notes ending now, a group of five random notes are going for about $18. Two sets of two consecutive uncirculated notes are going for about $5 and $7 each pair. About 2x face. I would try to keep the consecutive notes together, for the few cents premium they might earn. The circulated note should be sold separately or spent, as I don't think you'll realise a high price for it. I, too, have gotten similar notes from the bank (I've gotten runs of two dollar US notes and $1 silver certificates), and I don't think any of them are so spectacular or valuable that any special care needs to be taken in order to sell them. I have a box I keep em all in, and if I were to buy yours, I wouldn't spend any more than prices you'll realise on Ebay. And I'd take your P&H costs into account as well into the total price. If you plan on selling your collection on Ebay, be sure to do some research first. Look to see what similar items are selling for -- it may not be worth your while to sell some things individually or even at all. (Common foreign coins, for example, are frequently sold bhy the pound.) Certainly ask questions here and on RCC -- lots of valuable help on both groups! Padraic Thanks again for your time and trouble. Bob-tx -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
