Vintage B&L Microscope in Case, c. 1937

This Vintage 1937 Bausch & Lomb Microscope is complete in its original wood
box and in excellent condition. The Microscope is a heavy metal casting and
has a black finish with all brass hardware (knobs, gear track, optics). The
microscope measures 13 inches tall when fully extended. The front says,
Bausch & Lomb Optical Company, Rochester, N.Y.). There are three power lenes
(1.9mm - 1.25- 97X, 4mm - .065 - 43X, and 16mm - 0.25 -10X). Beneath the
stage (where the slides are placed), there is a circular lens device that
can rotate away from the stage (see pictures) and also a rotating double
glass mirror. The microscope can also pivot by means of a brass pin.
The microscope case has a wood dove-tail bracket that secures six different
eye pieces for the set. These include a 5X, 10X, 15X, 20X, and 25X lens
element that fit into the top of the microscope. All are present. On the
other side of the case is another wood dove-tail bracket that secures six
different metal canisters. These are marked, 1.9 mm, 4 mm, 16 mm, 32 mm, and
one that holds a unopened glass container of Immersion Oil. These containers
hold the power lens elements. The 32 mm lens element is in the container
while the others are already screwed onto the microscope. There are several
other accessories (slides, brush, accessory attachments, etc). Also included
is the original B&L 20-page catalog (#D-185) that describes the different
models available at the time and accessories. This catalog is dated 1937.

The wood case measures 15 inches x 9 inches x 7 inches. It is of
rabbit-jointed construction. The front door is hinged and has a key lock.
The key is present.

The microscope, wood case, and all accessories are all in excellent
condition. There are no broken, missing, or damaged pieces or piece parts.
The microscope shows very little wear. This did not come from a school
laboratory. I bought this from the original owner's estate whose sons were
engineers during the 1920s and 30s. They were well known in the Cleveland
area and were holders of several dozen patents. As seen in the pictures,
they took very good care of this item.
