List of reliable dealers? List of scalawags?
Folks,
In all the recent discussions it has been suggested that there are three ways to acquire non-counterfeit, unwhizzed, uncleaned, well-graded coins: (1) Become an expert (2) Buy only slabbed pieces (3) Buy from reputable dealers (Yes yes, I know that not all slabbed coins are graded well etc. etc. etc., but let's leave that discussion for other threads.) I'm perfectly willing to follow suggestion (1). This will take some time, and I'm willing to acquire the knowledge - that's 80% of the fun for me. And I'm REALLY adept at doing (2), but my funds are now far more limited than they were ten years ago when I got all the MS65 slabbed Morgans that I'm now selling. Besides, I want to display my new coins in Dansco (or some other high quality) albums; seems silly to pay the slab premium just to crack them out. So that leaves me with (3) if I want to buy any coins within the next year or two. But who are the reliable dealers? Of course, there are scalawag dealers on RCC, and some reliable dealers are not denizens of RCC. SOOOOOOOO - I'm asking two things: (A) Who are the reliable dealers with an Internet presence, both RCC members and not RCC members? Given that this is a positive question, responses can be posted here out in the open. (B) Who are the Bad Guys to be avoided? I'm perfectly happy to have these responses e-mailed to me privately, and I promise to respect the privacy of the sender. Thanks in advance for your help, Scot Kamins -- RCC's Resident Newbie |

I followed your suggestion and got a list of discussion areas from coin-forum.com. What am I missing? He was speaking of Google Groups (a different part of the Google search engine): http://www.google.com/grphp or, for an advanced search: http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en It is an archive of Usenet and is searchable. All posts are in there except where the author has told them not to be (not very many people tell them not to be). Searching the newsgroup rec.collecting.coins in the advanced search can yield tons of useful info that has been posted over the years (and a bit of other less useful 'stuff' too. as you can imagine ) it is a very good resource but takes some digging into. -- Stujoe Email: http://tinyurl.com/wu00 Grading Challenge,Daily Coin News, Virtual Coin Museum and mo http://www.CoinPeople.com |

There were other post with all kinds of editing and additions which can be found thru Google, which I did not do as I had this copy on my HD. Hope this helps. Don, This is great! Is the list of coin dealers a random collection or is it a list of "treid and true" good guys? Scot Kamins -- RCC's Resident Newbie |
