Default Help: Rock ola 454 will not select A side.

Today as I was making a few selections on my jukebox, I found that
only side B (200's) was working. When it gets to the end where it is
to swap over to the A (100's) side, I hear a pop and it doesn't change
over to play the other side. When all the B sides (200's) are played
off, it just runs and runs because it will not change over.

This is a new problem for me, and I want to know how to go about in
getting it fixed. I am able to work on this machine if I knew what to
look for. Sometimes the pop it louder than others as if something is
binding.

Hi David, Sounds like you need to look at the odd-even alternating
dog and the tracks that it rides in. See page 43 in the service manual
and page 20 of the parts manual - items 14 & 46. Ray

I will look at that in just a minute... I encounered another problem
within minutes after posting this message yesterday too... I purposely
selected a record on the "A" side to see if I could locate what might
be going on while it scanned for the record. After a few rounds when
it got back to its rest position, it mechanism stopped and tripped the
circuit braker. I reset the breaker and it does nothing but trip it
again a few seconds later. Do you think this may be due to the binding
sound that I was hearing and has cause it from rotating, thus blowing
the fuse?

Okay, I found what you are referring to in the parts book and this is
where it is binding thus tripping the breaker. I need to know what
needs to be done to fix this. I had to force the mechanism past the
bind and now it work ever so often selecting both sides, but then goes
back to binding again.

To make this even more complicated, the last record it picked up, the
arm purposely dropped the record before the plate... the arm never
went all the way down. I got it to the park position while the record
is playing and then when it went to put the record back it stopped mid
cycle and I had to help it finish again.

I don't get why all the sudden problems one after another keep coming
up. It ran almost perfect up untill yesterday. Is it time for a good
cleaning?

You will need to remove the alternating dog & linkage to get a look at
it's condition. Also after it is out you can see the track on the
drive gear. If you remove the back access panel you can get to the
bolt that holds the linkage in. Usually the drive gear is pretty
gloppy with grease & accumulated dirt, which needs to be cleaned
out . (I hope you like lying down with your head in a jukebox - this
is the only way I know to look the gear tracks over.) See what you
find and post back on it. Ray
