1922 Peace Silver Dollar - Slabbed MS63! NR!
Greetings,
My wife has a friend in Wales who is collecting a set of the Statehood quarters. To help her out, we got some of our extras together and put them into a cardboard mailer and put that into another envelope. It weighed more than 4 oz so I needed to fill out the green customs tag. I put "numismatic item" with a value of $2.00 (there were 8 quarters). They told me I had to send it registered mail since it was "cash". This friend also swaps post cards with my wife. We got several of them together, put 4 quarters in the envelope with them, and mailed them with no problems. Had to do it twice to get all 8 quarters sent. In reality, even in the USA, we aren't supposed to be mailing money unless we send it as registered mail. So every grandparent who sends a birthday card with $5 cash in it to their grandchildren are breaking a federal law. Numismatic items are not exempted from this "law". I understand the intent is to prevent the money laundering. And there are ways "around" the laws. When it comes to shipping coins to overseas customers, I insist that they accept the risk, just as I do with some of the auctions I have won from British sellers. Bob "gogu" wrote in message ... Hi Bob! I've heard all that before and the truth is that you have no responsibility for what you are shipping abroad; if a given country does not allow coins to be imported this is buyer's duty to know and support the eventual loss. I live in Greece and "officially" on the USPS site they say it is not permitted to import "coins" in Greece! The question is "what kind of coins" ?! I've asked at the Post Office here and they said the law speaks about coins in the sense of "real", circulating money, the law was trying to protect the country from fraudulent movement (read laundry...) of money (also to protect country's currency), so collector's coins are not included ! Not to mention that this law is about ... 65 years old and already obsolete with the introduction of the euro... Bottom line, I have more that 450 coins bought from US based dealers, silver and gold, and I *never* had a problem here ! There are several dealers who will ship abroad, I believe they know something better ;-) Rgrds -- E' mai possibile, oh porco di un cane, che le avventure in codesto reame debban risolversi tutte con grandi puttane! "Anti-spam" ?????? ??? ?????? news:KQPDf.17233$K17.10678@trnddc03... Two days to go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=8377812874 By non accepting overseas bids you are reducing your opportunities to get a better max bid... As for the rest, nice coin but rather common, I'd like to see it in a PCGS slab :-) |

When I buy gold coins or coins/sets of big value, I am always asking to be sent by registered mail. For less valuable silver coins simple Airmail Letter Post is OK. In about 5 years on e-Bay I *never* lost a coin! Now regarding shipping abroad, I gave you my personal experience in my previous e-mail... The coins we are collecting are not considered "money" in its strict meaning (at least in Greece where I live). rgrds -- E' mai possibile, oh porco di un cane, che le avventure in codesto reame debban risolversi tutte con grandi puttane! Speaking of cowardly anonymity, take a quick look in any convenient mirror. And please learn how to spell anonymity. Mr. Jaggers |

On the other hand I'm also reducing my opportunities to get ripped off, and avoiding the hassle of filling in customs forms. Hmmm ... I have more than 400 coins bought from USA based sellers and everybody was happy to ship outside US. You can't be ripped off when you are paid through Paypal, actually all the "rip-off" cases I've ever heard of where done by ... Americans :-) Gogus tiny minded RACISM knows no bounds ! First he was anti-Jew Then he got anti-Muslim too Hate speech followed against Turks, Romanians and Macedonians Now he infers with his stupid little smiley emoticon that all Americans are Rip-off merchants and greece is a supreme safe haven where 400 coins did not get stolen *ROTFFLMFAO* |
