Default Question international cartridges

So I've bought a couple of inexpensive pens. They take the
"international" cartridges. I'm used to the Schaeffer cartridges and
these "international" ones raise some questions.

The ones that came with my new pens are exactly 1.5 inches long. I
originally measured them in millimeters, about 38 mm, but tried inches
and am amazed that they're an exact inch size.

Anyway, I guess these are the "long international" cartridges, yes?

I see someone with the nick "patek777" posting here in the ng about
his sales of international cartridges on E-Bay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=2247663 656
I notice that the picture he provides has a cartridge with a little
collar part way up from the nipple end. My cartridges don't have this
collar. Should this guy's cartridges work in my pens anyway?

Does the Rotring Core, which I've just purchased and not received yet,
take these same cartridges? Thanks for any help anyone can give me on
this.

The ones I have are 38 mm long too, they are international carts, they have
a collar too, it doesn't hinder their use though. Rotring uses int carts in
all their pens, so yes, they will work in the Core.

nope - the long ones are about 3" long.

Core takes the 1.5" carts - the one I bought yesterday came with one suck
inside the pen. I was trying to put the converter in and couldn't figure out
why it wouldn't fit. duh...

The Core will allow you to carry two of these international carts at one
time inside the pen. And it will take a standard piston converter which is
what I'm using.

KCat, I ordered med nib CORE but it is marked XL.
Is this a med nib or was there a mistake?
I like the pen.
The nib feels stiffer than those of my Pelikan 150 but the line width is
about the same.
It feels indestructible in my fingers.

Also delivered were the Pelikan 200's and they are so pretty I don't want to
ink them.

that's the med. the XS is the fine.

oh yeah - the nib on mine is *solid* - I can see writing through multiple
copies with this thing.

It feels indestructible in my fingers.

I'm disappointed that the "replacement" for this pen is the Skynn.
Interesting pen but from what I hear nothing of the sturdy-ness of the Core.
indestructible is a good way to describe the core. I'm was suprised by how
solidly built it really is. I believe they could make something similar to
the Core with a more conventional grip and a little less "ugly" to it that
would sell well enough to keep it in production. But I could be wrong. :P

ink ink ink... which 200s did you get? Translucents? Marbled? Love my
200s.

You've got a short international cartridge, not a long one.

The carts in the photo of your link will work okay. That little indentation
doesn't matter.

The Core will take either the long or the short. I prefer the long because
of the view ports. If you use the short, insert one and reverse another to
store it in the barrel as a spare.

BTW, the Core has a little orange(!) gizmo that's supposed to facilitate the
removal of cartridges. IMO, it's nothing but a PITA and so I removed it by
pinching the ends together and sliding it out of the section. Removal has
not affected performance in any way, shape, or form other than to make
unscrewing the barrel from the section easier and preventing the cartridge
from dropping out unceremoniously.

that's what that is! how on earth is it supposed to work? i filled the
converter immediately as I don't care for cartridges much. and is that what
is rOtring trying to say with "force resource"?

oh well - makes no nevermind to me as I'll keep the converter in it and a
little extra effort for putting the barrel back on is no biggee.

When you unscrew the barrel from the section, the gizmo hooks onto
something, the little ridge just inside the barrel?, and uses your removal
of the barrel to separate the cartridge from the section.

My newly arrived Balium and other pen don't have the gizmo nor the ridge so
I'm wondering if people complained about their cartridges dumping ink into
their laps or something, resulting in production runs that eliminated them.

Don't know about "Force Resource" - it's on my Balium and the other, too.

Just to clarify, the 3" cartridges (at least those from Waterman) also
fit just fine in a Core.

Generally, any pen that fits the short will fit the long as well. The
main exception is if the end of the pen (farthest away from the nib) is
very short or very slim - obviously not a problem with the Core. :-)
