I've heard about these but know practically nothing about them. Does
anyone know anything more?

Philately : Anarchism and Stamps

There is a long anarchist tradition of stamp collecting. In
most cases, receiving non obliterated stamps paid for the
expenses. But often some comrade would start a collection
and sell it to philatelists for the benefit of the movement.

Though many anarchists reached an international fame, it
was very rarely that states would picture them, and
whenever it was the case their philosophy was never
mentioned.

Nevertheless, there are a few anarchists represented on
legitimate stamps, the most frequent one probably being
Count Tolstoy, the author of War and Peace.

The Spanish Civil War also occasioned a set of
anarchist stamps, which were used for purposes
of propaganda.

There were also false stamps, for instance of
Nestor Makhno (Ukranian anarchist).

There was also Gabriele D'Annunzio, the Italian
anarchist who seized Fiume and was shown on its stamps.

The anarchist stamps that were printed in
Spain during the 1936 Civil War are very rare
and today very valuable. After Franco's victory,
people who kept them risked their lives.

Some of those who created those anarchist
stamps and posters are relatively famous.
Carles Fontseré (1916 - 4 of January of 2007)
worked for the Spanish FAI, the CNT and the
POUM. He worked with Salvador Dalí and
Cantinflas and later was in Hollywood,

There has also been some exercise in imagination.
New Zealand anarchist Bruce Grenville was
the mastermind in the 1970s behind an
extraordinary hoax involving the creation of an
imaginary state : Occussi-Ambeno.

I am not an expert on anarchist philosophy, but is not any
organisation such as a post office anathema to anarchists?

Nor me, however my observations:

"Anarchist philosophy" a new addition to my list of oxymorons.
(along with "Anarchist luminaries")
although they may have some similarity to planets
that boast a density that can bend light.

Anarchist:
Men with too much time on their hands and
too little going on in their heads.

You can judge a group's propensity for anarchism
by their ability to randomly form a queue
when awaiting service.

So why do you feel compelled to spam this *philately* group with crude
insults based on ignorance.

Among other things, the etiquette of staying on topic and avoiding ad
hominenisms is a detente agreement.

Hi Terry. It's good to have you contributing on the group. Normally I
would agree with your sentiments. However, Rod makes a massive
contribution to rec.collecting.stamps.discuss, and I for one don't mind
his wandering off the topic every now and them. Cheers mate!

Thanks John,
however, Terry is correct,
my opinion was not called for in this forum,
although I fully expected, when dishing it out
you have to cop it back with interest

Absolutely! If one can dish it out, one must allow the dishing to
return their way. :^P

Me, I've usually spoken my piece when things occur. I am no stranger
to voicing my opinion nor defending positions. There does, however,
come a point of diminished returns when one does that and then it is
time to stop.

Except, of course, for our Edmonton Stamp Show idiot.
