Counterfeit Postal Money Orders
Be aware of a new scam that is being perpetrated with a great deal of
success. You get an email like so many others with the obligatory sob-story but there is a twist. The scammer sends you a postal money order for you to cash for them because they are having a hard time cashing them in their home country. You get another postal money order for you to cash and keep for your troubles. The problem is that the money orders are counterfeit. Postal officials are wise to the trick but your local bank or supermarket may not be able to detect the bogus money orders (they are quite good counterfeits). Lady nearby cashed $24,000 of these, and now is being questioned by authorities. If it looks like its too good to be true it probably is. |

And another version......Customer ordered coin they saw online, for
$900, but appeared to misunderstand the conversion rates and sent us two U.S. postal money orders for $950 each so we would send them a refund. The postmark on the envelope was from Great Britain, but the shipping address for the coin was in the Bronx. Let's be careful out there!
