I would like to know if the following stamp is to be considered a "normal" stamp or an printout error, and a nominal value if not normal. Stamp description: Mozambique scenery (1948-49) Painting by Alberto e Sousa Dark Green (which is referred to as "olive green" in Portuguese) Image is a waterfall with the following writting Barué - Serra Choa - Queda nhanhangare Facial value 3$50 The particularity is that the escudo "$" sign is inverted. Stanley Gibbons' Part 9, 1996 edition, states that of this stamp (S.G. 423), "The dollar sign is in reverse on No. 423". (The "$" sign is referred to as a "dollar sign" in the English speaking world, even though in this case it denotes an escudo). This would indicate that all copies of this stamp show this error. In English, this would be described as "reversed" or a "mirror image". If something is said to be "inverted", that normally means it has been rotated 180 degrees: i.e. upside down. Used, in very good state. The catalogue price of a used copy is 20p (UK currency). Hope this helps. Regards Dave Joll |

It would seem like this is correct. I will try and confirm here in Portugal when I can. Thanks for the info. In English, this would be described as "reversed" or a "mirror image". Used, in very good state. The catalogue price of a used copy is 20p (UK currency). Thats also the price I have on my catalogue (Portuguese), but it does not mention the reversed dollar sign, thus my question. Thanks all for their contribution.
