Default OK I may be crazy but I think I have a

68 D Kennedy Half struck on a silver planchet. No "tell-tale" band can
be seen on the reeded edge. Should I see one?

Could someone give me the weight of a standard 68 D and a silver
planchet for the .50 ?

I've seen many where the copper band is nearly or essentially invisible--I
don't know why this is. Did you look very closely all the way around with a
loupe?

Could someone give me the weight of a standard 68 D and a silver

40% silvers weigh 177.46 grains; 90% silvers weigh 192.9 grains.

The band is usually present. But sometimes not.

A 90% silver half dollar will weigh around 12.5 grams while a 40% silver half
will weigh around 11.5 grams. Specific gravity will also clearly discriminate
between the two compositions.

If you cut into the edge of a 40% silver half you'll see a copper color. The
characteristic gray color at the surface of the 21% silver core may be due to
copper depletion of the surface, oxidation, or the effects of annealing and
washing.
