Default Rockola CD-8 Bubbler Question

I recently purchased an older Rockola CD 8 Bubbler that was
manufactured in Dec 94 and has the black 280 watt amplifier. It has
the Phillips CDM 4 Industrial player. When I got the jukebox home it
was skipping on some CD's, but generally sounded pretty good. I
realize that the CDM-4 players have a reputation for being
problematic. I had a Radio Shack CD Lens Cleaning disc, so I played
it on the jukebox. The sound is now very distorted. Is there
anything else I can try to clean the laser (if that is the problem).
I have not touched the lens. Thanks!

A little more info; I was just playing it some more, still the
distorted sound, and I have noticed that the CD is not spinning
"true", I see a wobble in it as if it is off-center. The CD appears
to be seated all the way. Are there other culprits that can cause
this problem? I also checked the total play meter and it shows 17
selections. The man I bought it from said they probably haven't
played it 50 times since it was new.

Mark,

There are a couple of things (at least) that could be causing your problem.

First, the 56180-1A amplifier had a couple of mistakes and updates involving screening of the audio pcb, etc.

Secondly, I have seen the "mono" board ( the CD interface pcb on the front of the mech) cause distortion. The most notable one from memory made the singer sound as if he were underwater.

I doubt that the CDM-4IND is the culprit.

If you send me an email address to "sales @ jordanamusement.com", I can send you the Technical Bulletins from Rock-Ola.
