Stupid Question About Cut-Out Tapes
I grew up in the late 60's/early 70's where I used to buy 8-tracks for $1.99
at all the shopping centers. I still have many of the GRT tapes with their slipcases and their burned-in cutout marks. This got me thinking; how were these tapes marked for deletion? Did they use a soldering gun and have some poor schmuck individually mark each tape? Or was there an automated process. Most tapes have a vertical groove, but some also have a tiny burned-in hole... |

Or was there an automated process. snip Could've been someone with an iron running down a whole line of carts. I know that LP cutouts were usually notched with a cutter that way, but some were done with a long punch, to give it the hole in the jacket. Most tapes have a vertical groove, but some also have a tiny burned-in hole... snip I don't remember anything about marking carts for cutout other than a hot bar used to doing those cutout bars. I've only seen the process for the LPs, but I'm sure it was some sort of "bulk process," as it was for LPs. dB |

Reprise Records was always unique; they had neat, brass rivets in their cut-outs! |

Bob Scarborough had a minimum wage job at that time, cleaning the rest
rooms and taking out trash, and sweeping/mopping floors at that record label- when he got caught up scrubbing camodes, they gave him a soldering iron and let him put melt marks on cutout tapes- he was on piece rate and if he did 1000 tapes an hour, they gave him an extra dime a week... |

Sorry Charlie, when you try and take back a well deserved positive from a buyer who pays promptly, that makes you a ****ing jerk-off. You've done it many, many times. Hell, you even tried to extort an extra $10 from a customer in exchange for positive feedback, all documented. Too bad you can't cancel that feedback like you do your posts, coward |
