To quote the seller: "This is getting spooky". I hope the people who
ran that jumble sale get a cut!

How much should these stamps actually bring?

Obviously we can't see plate numbers on the eBay scan, but CVs for a
single 1d black on cover start at around £200. But this was something
in a league of its own. It went for £1,131.55. The bidding history
makes interesting reading.

The whole story of this find should make a good magazine or newspaper
article.

BTW 4d sounds a bit expensive for what looks like an ordinary letter
to Dublin. Can anyone confirm this was the correct rate (presumably
from England -- I don't have the expertise to make anything of the
rubber stamp on the back)?

But if you click on the close-up scan of just the stamps you can see
that it's a strip: FI/FJ/FK/FL.

Ebay's 'pennyBlack', with 484 sales to his credit - started the bidding at 1
pound, and promptly dropped out.
