Waterman cap
I've got a 10-yr old Waterman Expert rollerball pen that I'm very fond of;
it's my "everyday" pen. Unfortunately, while visiting a client's plant recently I dropped the pen and seriously cracked and chipped the edge of the top of the cap. I had the bright idea of putting a drop of super glue on it to prevent further chipping -- and it really looks bad now! Would anybody have a spare cap (black) that you'd be willing to part with? Thanks, Bart |

It wasn't that much, and they delivered in just a few days. |

Waterman cap
I went to Waterman's site and left a message inquiring about getting a new
cap. I received a response from "Janesville, Cons Repair Group" advising that a new cap will cost $40 (not surprising), and suggesting that I send the pen to them so that the cap could be replaced. That seems like overkill -- why not just send me the cap(?) BW "Michael" wrote in message ... "bwesley8" wrote in message news:nOw4g.59392$gE.30830@dukeread06... I once sent them a Waterman fp (don't remember the model, but not very expensive) to repair a nib that leaked inside the cap. Basic steel nib. They sent it back, saying it was an old model they no longer made, so at no cost they swapped it for a whole new nib (gold plated) and assembly from a higher model that essentially fit my original cap and barrel. I'm guessing the parts cost more than my original pen. |

Waterman cap
I plan to call them tomorrow (Monday) to discuss their suggestion.

Waterman cap
I'm amazed at the service you're all getting from Waterman - since
being sold to Sanford I have found that parts are non-existent and service is even worse (I'm in Australia but I contacted the US and two repair agents in Europe). I have a Briar Wood Le Man 100, this series tends to suffer fracture of the brass/gold section around the nib assembly over time; I sent this to Waterman/Sanford through my agent here and it came back with a note saying "we can't fix these any more" and they actually CRACKED the wood in my cap assembly - irreplaceable, you can't get parts for love nor money for this series. Needless to say I was utterly furious and powerless to do anything; my vendor butchered another Le Man 100 for the brass/gold assembly component that I originally wanted replaced but now I fear this is the last repair this pen will stand, the internal grip of the cap (that clicks it into place) is weakening and they're saying that you can't get these any more either. My vendor said that this was never a problem when Waterman was family owned or even when Gillette owned them but now it's gone too far down hill; I was thinking of picking up an Edson but I'm rather fearful that I'm going to suffer the same problems with parts and service that the Le Man has suffered. Sure that's an older model now but it was a flagship range and was very widely sold; there were a lot of them out there, they out-numbered the Mont Blanc models in many cases. I tried in vain to find parts for these elsewhere but the only option I have is to try to buy an entirely new pen; something I don't want to do (I'd rather get an Edson if I'm going to risk a Waterman again), is this a safe venture or will I likely suffer the same problems again? On 1 May 2006 10:51:37 -0700, "Satan Motors" wrote: I had a Waterman Expert fountain pen. I sent a fussy converter and a twisted nib to them in the first few years, each time through the dealer, and all I had to pay was the shipping costs, which in the early 90s was $15 CDN. Then, in 2002, I wrote to Waterman/Gillette to tell them that the cap was loose and kept coming off, and since the pen had been discontinued, they sent me a whole new one. Three converters, three nibs, and two caps, all for $100. Great service. |

I bought a new Waterman and the converter was broken (shipped as 2 unattached pieces) and she wanted me to return the pen. After a few email exchanges, she agreed to just mail me the converter. I insisted that the pen remain in service (with cartridge) and no particular skill was needed to remove the cartridge and replace with converter. -- -Moonstone- "The only certainty is that all things will pass." |
