Canada Issues Silver/Niobium Coin
So Canada has begun selling the first in a series of bimetallic silver
and niobium coins, joining several European countries that have already done so. I like the coloring of the niobium core; I think it makes for a striking coin. Unfortunately, Canada's coins are considerably smaller than their European counterparts-- 28mm in diameter compared to 34mm. They are also inexplicably much more expensive-- over US$120 each, whereas the Austrian coins cost less than US$75 and contain nearly double the silver. I wonder if these coins will still be snatched up at this price due to a relatively low mintage (7500 each), or if the high price will keep collectors away. Thoughts? |
