Pound Note with Arabic on Reverse
Padraic, here is the promised translation of the message in Arabic.
It is not perfect, as some words fell on creases and tears. Also, I do not have an Arabic-English dictionary. "Signs of the Dissolution If you think about this item, it will remind you of the time when you would be paid its equivalent in weight in shiny and ??? gold. That was because the note was guaranteed by the Great Empire with all that it had in strength and riches and ??? But its greatness has passed and its riches squandered (?) like old paper. What is the price of paper today? No doubt you know that. Every day that passes since this war was started by the England has shredded the strength of the English Empire, and every battle England has lost has caused the deterioration of the British currency. Today the time is near when [people] will refuse to accept it ........... (some words the meaning of which is not understood) on the road of the [non]acceptance of the English pound [guinea in the Arabic]. .........(One short sentence not understood). God has willed the dissolution of Britain and it will happen." NOTE FROM TONY The references to Great Empire, England, English Empire, British, and Britain appear in the Arabic text that way. By the way, the print of the note looks brown, although Pick makes no mention of the note in that color, unless I missed it. Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: "A.E. It says that the | note | was once redeemable in gold, but now is not worth the paper it is | printed | on, etc., etc. The last sentence says: "God has willed the dissolution | of | Great Britain and it will happen". | | Can you actually translate the whole text for us? | | Padraic. | | | I will try. Some of the words are on the creases, and others had unusual | font, | making it are difficult to decipher. I will post the translation later. | | |

There are three such notes with different messages. I have translated
them all at one time or another in the IBNS Journal. |
