Default "Check 21"

Since getting involved with ink, the banking industry has become a source of
ever increasing levels of importance fighting forgers, check washers, and
identity thieves. The latest:

"Please note that because Check 21's effectiveness depends on clear digital
images, we strongly encourage your use of black ink and approved check
designs.* We offer a wide array of checks that are image friendly but you
should be careful when purchasing checks from other companies to avoid
backgrounds, designs or colors that are not image friendly."

The above is the message that was sent by a few regional banks. It is a
national law, so it is likely your local bank has made similar statements. The
critical moment for checks has expanded from not only the moments before
clearing - such as when it is in the mail, mail box, or being carried by the
receiver (the moments when check washers and forgers pounce, especially on ball
pen inks)...to also include the new steps of forming virtual checks during
clearing. It is critical to have an ink that is as close to forgery proof as
possible, as black and deep in contrast as possible, wash proof as is possible
AS WELL AS having a check paper with all the standard security marks, lines,
etc...and on standard check paper - not plastic composite or high gloss papers.
Plastic or polymer composite papers and high gloss papers defeat not only
Noodler's Black (it washes off plastics by design!) but can reflect badly in
electronic scans.

Demonstrations of Noodler's Black and sample bottles have been at many pen
shows, but if you need more...here are a couple sites:
