Default Belgian RR / Parcel Post Project Update #1

Hi -

For those who are interested, I have completed sorting out my clean
stamps with Hexagon cancels. I'm starting to go even more blind than
I have been.

On a serious note, I have all 3 versions of the Belgian Study Group
reference on these stamps. I've looked over 500+ stamps and although
they've (BSG) looked over 1000s (I'm not there yet), I have found
several new cancels and extended the time frame on some of the
cancellations from specific depots.

This is very enlightening, encouraging and rewarding because at first
I thought I would be simply treading the same old water. Now I have
seen proof through some careful diligence with the cancels I've been
working with and the payoff is another contribution to the hobby.

These stamps may not be everyone's cuppa tea, but...

Isn't this just what collecting is all about? We hoard away our
treasures and then pull them out for play and find some previously
unknown territory. Neat! I've also found many precancels and some of
"10%" overprints, which add some color and spice (girth?) to an
already bloated country collection.

Another thing I've encountered is that I already have some stuff I
thought I didn't have, like some of the recent issues, printed for
collectors, but philatelically cancelled by SNCB.

I guess when it comes down to flyspeck variations there are 2 levels:
the visual version as it is with the 2 types of stamps I just
mentioned and then the printing variations of said themes.

I just sent my app in for membership with the Belgian Study Group. I
may be stepping back from WW up to pre-1960, which seems that I'll
just never have time to play with them all.

It seems the more I go, the less I want to collect. Although many of
these stamps are great, I may have to "lighten the load" and focus in
on specific areas of collecting. Seems too overwhelming otherwise and
this project has truly made me see this.

I've only just begun!
